What we do

We advise and represent individuals and companies being investigated by the Police and government bodies such as the Crown Prosecution Service, Her Majesty Customs and Excise, Serious Fraud Office, NHS Counter Fraud, Local Authorities and numerous regulators.  We undertake work at all levels from the initial letter, summons, police or PACE interviews through to the court or tribunal hearings and appeals.

We also represent and advise witnesses in proceeding where it is appropriate for them to have a legal advisor.

General Crime

We represent those accused of any general criminal offence from minor Magistrates Court cases such as criminal damage, drug  or assault offences, to the more serious Crown Court cases involving multiple defendants. We also regularly advise on appeal against conviction and/or sentence.

We have a wealth of experience of dealing with sensitive cases such as domestic abuse and sexual offences (including those around ‘chemsex’)  A conviction for these offences will often have ancillary orders and we are regularly instructed to amend or vary these.  We are frequently involved in cases involving children, historic abuse and online offences such as revenge porn or indecent images. A number of our clients, due to the nature of the offences require us to have cross agency/ educational establishment communications.

White Collar Crime

We are regularly instructed by individuals and businesses in respect of investigations by government agencies into  allegations such as fraud, money laundering, corruption or bribery.  Often in such investigations warrants and notices are served by the relevant investigating body and we advise on the lawfulness of those warrants and the obligation on the individual/ business to comply. We advise on the subsequent ancillary orders associated with convictions such as confiscation orders and also variation of such orders.

We also advise businesses in respect of employees who may have been involved in such offending and we have undertaken internal investigations and also advised on private prosecutions.

Regulatory

The range of regulatory work that we undertake is wide from investigations by regulators, Local Authorities and the Health and Safety Executive. We regularly act for professionals (and companies) under investigation by regulators such as the General Medical Council, General Dentistry Council, Solicitors Regulation Authority, Bar Standards Board, and the Financial Conduct Authority.  We assist with self reporting and advising all the way through to the conclusion of the proceedings.

Most recently we have been instructed on cases involving Local Authority investigations for breach of building regulations in respect of listed properties, breach of pest control regulations and health and safety such as asbestos removal.
